What is chiropractic

How does a chiropractor work and why do people come to us?

Chiropractic has a wide range of applications and the reasons why interested people come to us are different. Your organism is weakened. Loss of posture, stiffness, tension, physical and emotional stress, mental “flabbiness” and premature aging are very common.

What is chiropractic and how does the chiropractor:in work?

Chiropractic is all about living with more agility, flexibility and resilience.

Your health is controlled both directly and indirectly by the nervous system, and any disruption or instability in this system affects normal function and reduces resistance to disease. Chiropractic care brings the spine into a better functional and stable position. This in turn allows the nervous system to function more effectively.

Chiropractors have mastered the art of adjusting all the joints of the spine to reduce the effects of chronic or acute trauma and biomechanical instability.

Chiropractic care is a gentle and specific maneuver that can be used effectively and safely on people of all ages.

What does vitalistic chiropractic mean?

At Chiropractic Lounge Munich we follow the philosophy of vitalistic chiropractic. This means we view the human being as a self-healing and self-organizing organism. We do not consider ourselves or the treatment as the healing power, but the inherent self-healing power (also called innate) of all of us as the factor for recovery.

Holistic thinking includes both the biomechanical, neurological and energetic views of the human body and mind. It also includes taking a holistic approach to our patients. To change a harmful process requires awareness and responsibility on the part of the patient.

How Safe is Chiropractic.

Simply said, very. We refer to research that in the hands of a professional practitioner, chiropractic care is very safe.

Also noteworthy is this fact: serious treatment reactions occur in less than 1 per 1 million applications. This is statistically zero in medical terms.

What is the difference to osteopathy and physiotherapy?

Understandably, it is quite difficult for lay people to distinguish between these terms.

We would like to try to provide some clarity:

Physiotherapy, formerly known as Krankengymnastik:

Physios also practice manual therapy ( an additional qualification acquired in physiotherapy, which then entitles the billing of the corresponding medical prescription). Physical therapists are basically directive, meaning they are only allowed to work with a doctor’s prescription.

Osteopathy:

Basically, the practice of osteopathy also requires a license as a non-medical practitioner. One can either study osteopathy and / or attend specialized training as a physio or HP. A distinction is made between 3 areas: Structural osteopathy (muscles, fascia, ligaments, joints), visceral osteopathy (organs) and craniosacral osteopathy (skull and sacrum, cerebrospinal fluid flow and rhythm).
The osteopath also “manipulates” the spine.

Chirotherapy:

Specialized further training for physicians, “The additional further training in manual medicine/chiropractic comprises, in addition to specialist medical expertise, the recognition and treatment of reverberative disorders of the movement system by means of manual therapy.

Difficult to answer. And there are certainly a few characteristics to look for. e.g.:

  • Specialization in chiropractic
  • Study or comparable intensive training in Germany
  • Continuous education and training
  • Membership in associations like ICA or DAGC (verlinken) with quality control

In the Chiropractic Lounge we attach great importance to good education and regular continuing education. You can find out more about the chiropractors and the practice team here.

What is an adjustment?

An adjustment is the application of a specific force to enable the correction of the subluxation. The adjustment acts like a reboot on the nervous system, improving the communication between the brain and the body. The adjustment gradually resolves the interference in the transmission in the nervous system and ensures that our body can be better regulated.

For whom is chiropractic treatment not appropriate?

Viewed through the lens of a vitalist chiropractor, there is virtually no one who could not benefit from an adjustment.

And, of course, chiropractic can’t help everyone.

With the right intention, experience and skills, anyone can be adjusted by a well-trained chiropractor. We are able to tailor treatment to the patient’s condition and age.

Can I have chiropractic treatment if I have had surgery?

Of course! and again, you should at all costs. There are several reasons for this:

Firstly, malpositions, often lasting for months, create so-called avoidance patterns, which often persist even after surgery. These should definitely be treated chiropractically. Especially with hip TEP (total hip arthroplasty) we very often see conditions like pelvic obliquity and ISG syndromes. The leg length difference very often leads to dysbalances in ascending or descending chains.

On the other hand, various structures in the spine scar after, for example, an intervertebral disc operation. Here very often unfavorable traction conditions arise on other spinal areas or fasciae and cause further complaints there. Everything is connected with everything and nothing exists isolated in our body.

Can I have chiropractic care when I am pregnant?

Not only can you, you absolutely should. Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy? Regular chiropractic care during pregnancy eases the heavy burden on the spine. More and more mothers want to bring their babies back into the world naturally. Chiropractic care is one way to help with this, especially because of the changes that occur during pregnancy. Weight gain shifts the center of gravity of the spine. Together with the softening hormone relaxin, which relaxes the ligaments and thus widens the pelvis, there is often pain in the lower part of the lumbar spine and the so-called pregnancy sciatica.

Minimal misalignments of the vertebral bodies and the pelvic bones also disturb the mother’s nervous system and this while she is supposed to perform for 2 people.

The baby may have a hard time seeing the light of day if the mother’s pelvis remains in a misalignment. A well adjusted spine and pelvis is the key factor for a relaxed birth.

What is meant by "philosophy of modern chiropractic"?

Holistic, vitalistic chiropractic considers the human being as a whole.

The human being as a biological organism is the focus, not the individual symptom.

Symptoms are usually only the body’s expression that it has reached its limits in its ability to compensate.

A chiropractor assumes that our body is a self-sustaining, self-regulating and self-healing organism and that all our health rests on five pillars:

  • Exercise
  • Nutrition
  • Condition of the spine
  • Stress
  • Regeneration
